Ontology develops the Ontology blockchain which is a highly efficient and low cost blockchain which brings decentralized identity and data solutions to Web3, the new version of the internet currently being developed. They intend to create ways to make your identity and data eventually protected by encryption, so you won’t have to stress about your information being stolen by hackers through the usage of a ONT ID. They also develop the ONTO wallet which manages your digital identity, data, and assets all in one place and comes automatically with an ONT ID. Ontology is working on a decentralized finance lending protocol, Wing finance, as well that uses the first and only blockchain reputation scoring system to automatically determine whether a person is eligible for lending, borrowing, or insuring. Their final public product is a decentralized data protocol known as SAGA which helps users purchase and monetize data through a secure marketplace. Currently, their token goes for around $.73 and they have a market cap of around 649 million dollars. The founder of Ontology is Jun Li who has 17 years of experience in IT and fintech.

I believe the technology that Ontology is offering is extremely revolutionary and that the identity blockchain has a lot of room to grow soon as more blockchain technology is publicly accepted and adopted. It does already have the largest market cap however, and who knows how much money this company will be earning through their products. People won’t want to have to pay additional fees to a company for simply storing their data and information and this technology also may be extremely inconvenient for the average person to download, use, and understand. I think their technology associated with identity has a place in our everyday lives and am intrigued by the future of their wing finance system as it utilizes a unique scoring system that I think could be applied to other aspects of identity like when purchasing something of value that you need to be verified for. However, the uncertainties of web3 and blockchain identity technology adoption prevents me from putting anything more than 5% of a portfolio.
